Into the Beautiful North!
Joanna Priestley is a filmmaker from Portland, Oregon, USA who was very lucky to be an artist-in-residence at the Klondike Institute for Art and Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City, Yukon, Canada and a presenter and juror at the Dawson International Short Film Festival.

Three famous writers lived in Dawson: Jack London, Robert Service and Pierre Berton. In summer you can visit the Berton House and the Jack London Museum. According to the Visitor’s Bureau brochure, the top attraction here is Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall. KIAC holds occasional film screenings at Gertie’s, including a One Minute Film Festival, where anyone can check out an iPad and film their mini-movie with it!
Lots of animals live in and around Dawson: 2020 humans, 190,00 caribou, 70,000 moose, 10,000 Black Bear, 7000 Grizzly Bears, 4500 wolves, 2000 Tinhorn Sheep, 1700 mountain goats, 500 deer, 200 muskoxen, 100 elk and 50 Arctic Fox. In winter, In the winter, I saw only humans, lots of dogs and several cats.
